Culture in Montmartre

Montmartre area

Sacré Coeur: one of the most visited monuments of Paris, with its unique architectural style and its position high on the Butte Montmartre, the highest viewpoint of Paris (after the Eiffel Tower).
Construction began in 1876 and took over 40 years. It was designed in roman-byzantine style with egg-shaped domes and symbolic ornamentation.
The bell tower houses “la Savoyarde” which is the biggest bell in France and weighs some impressive 19 tons.

Espace Dali: This private museum entirely dedicated to Dali offers an insight into the world of this extraordinary artist with over 300 artworks.

Musée de Montmartre: this 17th century Manor house overlooking the vineyard of Montmartre has been home to Suzanne Valadon, her son Maurice Utrillo and Renoir. The museum presents collections of the “Old Montmartre” and temporary exhibitions that regularly change.

Others: Place du Tertre with its artists, the Bateau-Lavoir considered the birthplace of modern art and the Moulin de la Galette, only windmill in working order of Montmartre (painted by artists such as van Gogh and Utrillo).
